Inspired by tales from their own families, Pittsburgh Dad was created by star Curt Wootton and writer/director Chris Preksta in 2011. Since then, Dad has become an internationally known character with 1.4 million fans and has appeared on ESPN, the Pat McAfee Show, The Price is Right, NBC, ABC, and PBS. The Pittsburgh Dad book, based on the show, was published through Penguin/Random House.
